Dr John Bates is married with three children. If he has time he enjoys playing 5-a-side football, messing with computers and following Manchester City.

Dr Bates qualified from the Victoria University Manchester in 1987 where he gained his BDS degree.

He joined the practice in February 1989 as an Associate Dentist, having previously worked at two practices in Salford.

In September 1991 he bought into the Practice.

Dr Bates has a special interest in Orthodontics (braces) providing this treatment for patients of other Dentists in the practice, and referrals from other practices. He undertook a two year course run by the University of Manchester on Orthodontics, and was a Clinical Assistant dentist in the Orthodontic department at Tameside General Hospital for three Years.

He is a member of West Pennine Local Dental Committee, Manchester East and North Local Orthodontic Group, British Dental Association, General Practitioner Group of the British Orthodontic Society, and Manchester and Region Orthodontic Study Group.

On five occasions he has been selected by the North West Post Graduate Deanery for being a mentor for newly qualified Dentists.

He is interested in computers and is in charge of running the computer system for the practice, and providing input to the development of the software as a beta tester for Kodak Arthur.
